We even look at the “language” of the plant from which the essential oil was extracted.

Yes, essential oils, including those droplets of life from commonly known herbs, have a language all their own! One of the resources we commonly turn to, when researching any essential oil to use in our natural skin care products, is a charming book published in the 1960’s aptly named, The Language of Flowers.

Here are just a few of the more interesting meanings that we found when creating some of our soon to be introduced herbal skin care products, along with the scent of essential oil:

  • Basil has a strong, spicy aroma that is invigorating to body and spirit speaks of love, blessings, and best wishes.
  • Chamomile has a warm, sweet, herbaceous scent that is relaxing and calming for both mind and body speaks of comfort.
  • Dill has a peppery/spicy fresh scent that is stimulating, revitalizing, and balancing speaks of good spirits
  • Fennel has a sweet, earthy, anise-like aroma that is energizing, vitalizing, and balancing. It means the recipient is worthy of praise.
  • Geranium has a wonderfully uplifting and calming flowery scent. It speaks of comfort and consolation.
  • Lavender has an incredible fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Lavender speaks of devotion and loyalty. We use essential oils of both St. Maries Lavender and also lavender - Lavandula angustifolia - that most people commonly know.
  • Oregano has a heavy, spicy, pungent aroma that creates feelings of security. Oregano speaks of happiness.
  • Peppermint has a strong, clean, fresh, minty aroma. Peppermint speaks of cordiality.
  • Rosemary has a fresh, herbaceous, sweet, slightly medicinal aroma. Rosemary speaks of remembrance.
  • Sage has a spicy, herbaceous aroma and speaks of wisdom.
  • Spearmint has a minty, slightly fruity scent that is softer than peppermint. Spearmint speaks of warmth of sentiment.
  • Thyme has a handsome spicy, warm, herbaceous aroma that is both powerful and penetrating. Thyme speaks of happiness and courage.
